OLVM Leadership opposes historically low resettlement goal for 2019

The Leadership Team of Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters support the strong opposition by the members of the Interfaith Immigration Coalition to the recent announcement by U.S Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that the refugee goal for the coming year will be capped at 30,000, reduced from 45,000. Once again we are dismayed at the lack of compassion by the Trump Administration to historically limit the number of refugees during this critical world refugee crisis.

As faithful followers of Jesus’ mandate to “love one another”, and to “welcome the stranger”, we believe our moral responsibility is to care for and protect all refugees who are escaping war and persecution. We demand that President Trump commit to resettling at least 75,000 refugees next year. We pray and hope that America can once again be that beacon of hope for refugees..

Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters is a religious community of women dedicated to serving the poor in the name of Christ. Founded in 1922 by Father John Joseph Sigstein, the members of the Victory Noll community minister to those in need.
